Job Description:

Chief Financial Officer

To manage the operations of the finance division

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works closely with the President/Chief Executive Officer, Executive Team, and the entire hospital staff to help fiscally improve the organization
  • Prepares current and comparative analysis reports and statements reflecting variations in cost and revenues, and financial condition of the hospital by analyzing net income, expenses, and profit/loss for each hospital department, based on factors such as patient revenue, material and supply costs, and staff salaries and wages
  • Evaluates contract proposals from outside vendors and managed care companies to analyze the financial impact on the hospital and to ensure the future viability of the organization 
  • Prepares special analytical, statistical and financial studies to support long range planning, and investigation and appraisal of major equipment purchases and hospital expansion or remodel
  • Directs and coordinates activities concerning financial administration, general accounting, financial analysis, business services, revenue cycle, materials management, reimbursement, health information management, facilities, biomed, environmental and food services
  • Works with investment managers to follow ORS regulations and choose appropriate investments
  • Participates in labor negotiations and labor disputes
  • Directs preparation of Hospital budgets by establishing policies and procedures for the preparation of department budgets, and coordinating compilations into the hospital budget
  • Obtains funding for large projects
  • Coordinates insurance policies so that assets are properly insured against loss or damage.
  • Develops and maintains appropriate cash flow projections and controls, continually reviewing the cash position and ensures that adequate funds are available to meet outstanding and planned commitments
  • Directs preparation of cost reimbursement reports to government and private third party agencies to ensure that the hospital is in compliance with the financial requirements of all regulatory agencies while receiving the appropriate reimbursements
  • Attends workshops, seminars and maintains program of self-study to learn of current developments in financial areas and pending government regulatory changes
  • Participates in the analysis of employee benefit plans and wage increases to determine current and future cost impacts

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES

  • Bachelor of Science/Arts Degree from an accredited university or college
  • Masters of Business Administration degree in Accounting/Finance (will consider extensive experience in lieu of)
  • FHFMA certification or CPA certification preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of Five (5) years of progressively responsible exercise in administering the financial areas and programs in a health care facility
