Spiritual
Care

Spiritual care at Bay Area Hospital is available to any patient or family member who wants support. We respect each individual’s personal beliefs and their ability to draw on these beliefs in responding to illness, healing, and recovery. Patients do not have to belong to a specific faith community or even consider themselves religious to receive a visit from one of our spiritual care providers.

Receive Spiritual Care
spiritual support

Dealing with medical issues often brings with it additional challenges that are stressful and even overwhelming. A chaplain is trained as a resource to support our patients and families as they journey through medical crises. We are emotionally and spiritually present to patients and families on their worst days. Our practice involves listening deeply and providing a space for patients and family members to process. We serve as companions and witnesses, as those we hold space for connecting with their inner resources.

Chaplains are on call 24/7 for end-of-life needs. Routine needs are seen Monday-Thursdays. Ask your nurse to contact a Chaplain on your behalf. Spiritual care can also assist you in connecting with your own clergy during your stay.

Sacred Spaces

All Faith Chapel

Bay Area Hospital’s All Faith Chapel is located on the second floor next to the IMCU. It is open 24 hours a day and is available for prayer, meditation, or contemplation. You can also find religious books and other resources in this space. If you are interested in supplying religious literature, please get in touch with us at volunteer@bayareahospital.org

Meditation Garden

Outside the Emergency Department, we have a beautiful, enclosed meditative garden. This is a picturesque space to sit and contemplate outside the rush of the hospital.

Wellness Trail

Our wellness trail opened in 2023. It provides a scenic path to NBMC or multiple quick-loop trail options. From our administrative lobby doors, both loops and back are just a one-mile hike. Our team painted colorful trail markers to point the way. Even though the trail is not long, you will feel immersed in the forest after a very short time in our beautiful woodland.

Healing Sounds

Volunteer musicians bring comfort and healing to Bay Area Hospital. Patients, families, staff, and hospital visitors all benefit from the generosity of these volunteers. Volunteers can play our grand piano in the hospital lobby. With some additional training, volunteers can bring their own instruments to a patient floor to bring comfort. We welcome a variety of instruments. If you have 30-45 minutes a month to give, we encourage you to join us.

Spiritual & Emotional
Support for Staff

Our team shows up for this community and lives our mission every day. We are incredibly proud of our people. And we continue to invest in them and their skills. Self-care and resilience must be a part of the long-term ecosystems for those in healthcare careers. One of the ways we help our team grow in resilience is by supporting our people with Peer Support. We have joined the Coos County Peer Support Team to train team members in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). We have learned from our area EMS and law enforcement some of the tools that help us support one another in this work, and we are growing our resilience tools so that we continue to serve the community we love.
