Hospital Puts Latest Medical Advances On Display

The public is invited to view Bay Area Hospital’s latest medical advances at an open house next weekend.

The event, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, will highlight new services including robotic-assisted surgery, inpatient dialysis and cardiovascular care. Visitors also can learn about Bay Area Hospital’s next important enhancement: hyperbaric wound care.

“We’re really excited about the improvements we’ve been able to make, and we want to share them with the community,” said Paul Janke, the hospital’s chief executive officer. “These new services are going to have a big impact in the lives of our patients.”

The open house will feature technology demonstrations, prize drawings, health screenings, ambulance tours and refreshments. The entire event is free.

Some of the new technology on display was part of Bay Area’s Hospital’s recent 110,000-square-foot expansion. Completed this year, the addition boasts all private rooms, a new Intensive Care Unit and a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.

Cardiac care at Bay Area Hospital results from a partnership among Bay Area Hospital, Bay Clinic and the Oregon Heart & Vascular Institute at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center in Springfield.

The program, known as Bay Area Cardiology Network, involves clinical cardiology practice, hospital-based and interventional services at Bay Area Hospital, electrophysiology, a cardiac catheterization lab and development of a comprehensive cardiac care program.

Cardiologist Dr. Satyendra Giri has led the cardiac catheterization team since arriving this spring. Cardiac catheterization involves inserting a tube through a blood vessel, so that a physician can see and work on the patient’s heart from the inside.

“Dr. Giri is an outstanding physician, and having him here allows us to provide cardiac intervention services that previously weren’t available,” Janke said. “This is huge. It means a lot of patients will be able to get the care they need right here instead of traveling to Eugene or Portland.”
