To ensure the health and safety of our staff, caregivers, and patients, below are the current policies for visitors. We ask the public to avoid nonessential trips to the Emergency Department at this time. We realize that this additional visitation restriction is disruptive to family connections and we appreciate the community’s patience, understanding, and support.

Bay Area Hospital provides the opportunity for patients to have visitors. To ensure adequate rest for patients and to provide patient safety we have established the following visiting regulations and hours. Certain areas of the hospital set their restrictions when necessary. We request, due to infection control, that if you are ill or have symptoms of infection, that you not visit patients at Bay Area Hospital.

  • Open visitation is allowed for the following:
    • Post Surgical Unit (PSU), Medical Care Unit (MCU), Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), patients who are minors, and patients who are end-of-life.
  • Specialty areas, including and not limited to Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU), Family Birth Center (FBC), Pediatrics, and Operating Room (OR), have specific visiting guidelines.
    • Emergency Department (ED): one support person during the patient’s course of care. Patients under 18 years of age are allowed one parent or legal guardian.
    • Family Birth Center (FBC):
      • No visitors under the age of 12 unless they are healthy siblings of the newborn. They are not counted as support persons.
      • A professional doula is not counted in the total number of support persons.
      • Clinical Manager, Provider, or Charge Nurse has discretion to make exceptions regarding visitation.
    • Pediatric: visiting hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the exception of parents.
    • Intensive Care Unit (ICU): visiting hours are 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
      • Visitor(s) will use the intercom at the ICU doors to gain permission to enter
      • No overnight visitation unless approved
      • No one under 18 years old allowed to visit in ICU
      • Clinical Manager and / or Charge RN has discretion depending on critical state of the patient and / or end-of-life situations.
    • Operating Room (OR): visitor is restricted to visiting providers, medical, nursing or technical students with permission from the OR Clinical Manager or Charge Nurse.
    • Pre- and Post-Operative Patients: one visitor at a time, per patient.
    • Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU): patients have the right to have visitors unless this right is denied by provider order.
  • COVID-19 Positive Patients: no visitors are allowed, other than under special circumstances. Visitors must sign a special circumstance waiver before visitation.
  • General patient areas 10:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m. (one visitor at a time, per patient).
  • No visitor signs may be posted at the request of the patient or on order by the physician.
  • All general visitation to facility is prohibited.
  • The hospital does not restrict, limit or otherwise deny visitation privileges on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, culture, language, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or disability.
  • Business Office is currently open to the public.
    • Hours (walk-ins and phones):  9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday (closed major holidays).

  • HIM (Health Information Management) remains closed to visitation until further notice. Both offices can also be accessed via MyChart and Pay Bill Online portals.
