Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Bay Area Hospital! Even before there was a Bay Area Hospital, there was a Bay Area Hospital Auxiliary. The group was organized in 1972 to provide volunteer workers for the future hospital. Over the years, Auxiliary members have provided more than one million service hours and donated more than $1 million to the hospital.
Auxiliary volunteers are valued members of our team and play a vital role in our mission of improving the health of our community every day. They provide additional services to patients, families, visitors, staff, and brighten up our hallways with their friendly smiles. Throughout the hospital you will see our Auxiliary volunteers, identifiable by their bright blue jackets, greeting and assisting visitors, running the gift shop fundraiser, escorting patients to medical appointments, delivering flowers, providing wheelchair assistance, and much more. Whatever the task, our Auxiliary volunteers are here to make a difference. In addition to the Auxiliary program, Bay Area Hospital offers a student volunteer program for high school and college students and a volunteer musician program.
By donating a few hours of your time, you can make a positive difference in the lives of many. Volunteering provides an excellent opportunity to take an active role in your community, build skills, and explore career opportunities. There are many ways for community members and students to contribute their time and talent through our Volunteer Services programs. Our Volunteer Services team takes care in matching your skills and interest to a specific assignment.
The Bay Area Hospital Auxiliary has been serving the hospital and our community for nearly 50 years. Volunteers can work in several different roles throughout the hospital, including the information desks, surgery waiting room, Joint Replacement Destination Center, diabetes classes, and the gift shop. As of 2021, our Auxiliary volunteers have provided more than 965,558 service hours and donated more than $1 million to the hospital.
You may reach the Auxiliary by contacting Virginia Stackpole at 541-269-8149.
The student volunteer program is for high school and college students. Students must be 14 years old and are asked to commit to volunteering for at least six months (or one school semester). Most high schools offer elective credit or workplace experience credit for your participation in this program. College students may qualify for an internship.
Students are placed throughout the hospital based on need, availability, and student interests. Volunteering allows students to gain work experience and explore various careers in the healthcare setting. Extra events and meetings with fellow volunteers are offered to enhance the learning experience. Student volunteers currently work in multiple patient care departments across the hospital, as well as staffing information desks and assisting in hospital events like the Easter egg hunt and holiday party.
The volunteer musician program is for musicians that want to use their musical talent to contribute to a therapeutic, comforting environment at Bay Area Hospital. Volunteers currently perform in the new hospital lobby. We have a grand piano but welcome musicians that play a variety of instruments. The mission is to provide soothing music that contributes to a healing environment. Our volunteer musicians typically play at the hospital once or twice per month for 30-45 minutes.
