Before Baby Arrives

Our prenatal services include ultrasound and fetal testing when recommended by your doctor or midwife. We encourage you to write down or state your birthing wishes, and we will try our best to accommodate. We aim to help you have the birth you desire, while keeping you and your baby safe. Our dedicated nurses have specialized education and training in labor support, fetal monitoring, nursery care and lactation support. The labor and delivery unit provides seven birthing suites, one of which has a large jacuzzi tub. A MOMS nurse will give a tour of the unit and help with your paperwork prior to coming in for ease of admission.

Pain Relief During Labor

Options to assist with pain management in labor include comfort measures such as position changes and movement, hydrotherapy, intravenous pain medications, and epidurals. You can learn more information about these options during our childbirth education classes offered here at the hospital.

Bonding with your Baby

After your baby is born, bonding is encouraged by keeping you and your baby together as much as possible. Breastfeeding assistance is offered by all staff, and certified lactation specialists are available for consultation, if needed.

Our focus is on helping you have the happiest, healthiest pregnancy and birth possible. After discharge, a postpartum or home visit is also available to further assist with any additional needs that arise.

Other Services for Women

The Family Birth Center also specializes in caring for women undergoing gynecological surgeries or assisting with gynecological medical needs. We have found that by keeping this unit adjacent to maternity services, we are better able to care for women’s unique needs. Registered nurses educated and specializing in women’s health will assist you in your recovery. Our focus is holistic, with the aim of providing excellent physical and emotional care.

We encourage feedback from our patients because we want to provide the best care possible!

MOMS Program

MOMS (Management of Maternity Services) is a universal program serving all who plan to deliver at Bay Area Hospital – at no cost to the patient. Specially trained registered nurses work with you and your family throughout your pregnancy and after your baby is home to help you feel comfortable with your maternity experience and the care and feeding of your newborn.

Our MOMS program partners an experienced nurse with your family to assist you throughout your maternity experience. They assist with pre-admission registration, prenatal class registration, provide healthy pregnancy information and support, and explore your birthing options and choices with you. Throughout your pregnancy, we offer a tour of the Family Birth Center department, individual meetings, and follow-up phone calls. If needed, they also assist in connecting you with community resources.

Our comprehensive services aim to improve the overall well-being of mothers and babies in our community, and we are look forward to being a part of your extraordinary journey!

Service History

Since the early 1990’s, our charitable mission has been to enhance birth outcomes, minimize the risks for mothers and babies, and elevate the satisfaction of its participants.

Initially focused on reducing preterm labor, MOMS has evolved to address issues such as minimizing readmissions, promoting long-term breastfeeding, and serving as a liaison between our physicians and clients.participants.

Breastfeeding Help after the Baby Arrives

Lactation services are provided through the MOMS program. Internationally Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) and experienced MOMS registered nurses help you and your baby get off to a healthy start with breastfeeding. Assistance is offered during your hospital stay, during your postpartum home visit, as well as follow-up phone calls. If ordered by a healthcare provider, an IBCLC is available for consultation during your hospital stay or may be scheduled after you’re discharged home.

Helping you after Discharge

MOMS program offers a postpartum home or hospital visit. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that breastfed infants have a weight and jaundice check within the first five days of life. Those who deliver at Bay Area Hospital and live within travel parameters, will be offered a postpartum home visit from an experienced MOMS nurse to evaluate mom’s and baby’s health. During this visit, the nurse will also assist with feeding issues and answer parents’ questions. The MOMS nurse may offer information and referrals to services for postpartum depression, parenting programs and other community resources as needed. This visit is designed to take place in the comfort of your home, but you may choose to come to the hospital if you prefer.

Additional Resources

If you have not met with a MOMS nurse for your one-on-one appointment, please call 541-269-8258.

We suggest you take these classes in your third trimester, finishing at 37 weeks or before.
