The healthcare team at Bay Area Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) shares a commitment to providing individualized service to the people of our community.
With its third-floor entrance situated on the hospital’s east side, the ED is close to critical ancillary services, including the laboratory, medical imaging, and social services. The ambulance bay provides direct, covered access to enable ambulances, emergency responders, and other pre-hospital providers prompt delivery of their precious cargo—our patients.
Patients at Bay Area Hospital’s ED aren’t seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Instead, those with the most critical needs are seen first. When you arrive, a triage nurse will promptly assess your medical issue.
Emergency physicians are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week, with more physicians working during busy times. These physicians are members of our community and are all board certified or board eligible in emergency medicine. All receive ongoing education in cardiac, pediatric and trauma care.
Bay Area Hospital’s Emergency Department is also staffed with experienced registered nurses 24-hours a day, seven days a week, with increased coverage during busy times.
The nurse leadership has a strong commitment to ongoing skill building, and are certified in cardiac, pediatric and trauma care. The registered nurses on staff are certified emergency nurses or have a Trauma Nursing Core Certification (TNCC), and all registered nurses have advanced cardiac life support, pediatric life support and trauma training with mandatory competency testing required.
In addition to excellent nurses and physicians, board-certified physicians from the following specialties are available for consultation and referral at the discretion of ED physicians at all times:

Bay Area Hospital is a Level III trauma center, and as such, meets the rigorous hospital standards set forth by Oregon’s Department of Human Services. Maintaining this certification requires on-site verification of resources every three years by a team of surveyors, including a trauma surgeon, a trauma nurse coordinator, and Oregon’s trauma and tertiary care manager.
We understand that medical emergencies can also lead to emotional and social challenges. That’s why we have licensed clinical social workers and additional registered nurses available 24/7 for crisis intervention, case management, and discharge planning. Our social workers serve as a vital link to community resources, ensuring you have the support you need beyond the hospital walls.
Bay Area Hospital provides extensive on-site imaging services, including X-ray, CT, ultrasound, MRI, and interventional radiology. It also offers on-site diagnostic laboratory services and a blood bank 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
